Chapter Twenty-one
“I don’t know, Nadia. I don’t know if I can even attend his funeral,” Ke’yoko said before picking up her sandwich. “Maybe I’ll send some flowers instead.”
“I think you should go. Not for him, but to support your brother. I know it would mean so much to him if you did attend. I know your father hurt you but, Ke’yoko, you gon’ have to learn how to forgive and move on. If not, you’re the only one who’s gon’ be affected by it. Shit, he’s dead and gone,” Nadia explained as she and Ke’yoko sat outside on the patio at John Q’s Steakhouse, enjoying their lunch.
“I don’t know,” Ke’yoko said.
“Just think about it,” Nadia said, sipping on her wine.
“I will.”
“When is it again?”
“It’s tomorrow,” Ke’yoko replied.
“Damn, well, you gon’ have to think quick. I got a Brazilian sew in at nine a.m. If I didn’t have no appointment I would go to support you,” Nadia said.
“It’s cool. I think I’ma go, for Kailo. Not for no other reason,” Ke’yoko said.
“Good. On another note, girl, tell me why Twan’s ass called me last night.”
“For what?” Ke’yoko inquired.
“Talkin’ ’bout when am I gon’ bring his daughter to see him.”
“You lyin’.” Ke’yoko laughed.
“I wish that I was. I told that nigga a long time ago that I would never bring my daughter up in no penitentiary to see him. Then he gon’ say well can my momma or one of his other baby mommas bring her.” Nadia frowned.
“Girl, no, he didn’t.” Ke’yoko laughed before wiping her mouth with her napkin.
“Yesssss,” Nadia said, shaking her head. “I told that nigga he had me fucked up! If he wanted to be a daddy to A’Niyah he woulda stayed his ass outta the pen. Didn’t nobody tell him to pistol whip his baby momma.”
“Didn’t he tie her up and ride around the hood wit’ her in the trunk?” Ke’yoko asked.
“Yep. And the nigga gon’ try to tell me that she wasn’t gon’ show up and testify. I told that dumbass nigga as soon as he did somethin’ she didn’t like, she would take the stand in a heartbeat.”
Ke’yoko shook her head as she finished off her meal.
“That bitch caught him in the bed wit’ another bitch and he thought just because he had bought her an old-ass Benz and a few cheap diamonds that she would be okay. Shiiiit, fooled his ass. That bitch didn’t only show up for court, she told ’em that he sold drugs, ran guns, was robbin’ niggas; and the bitch even told ’em he was about eighty grand behind on his child support,” Nadia said, laughing.
Ke’yoko laughed too. “Damn, that bitch was foul. She told ’em about child support? Man, that was some petty-ass shit.”
“It was.” Nadia continued to laugh. “As if tellin’ them about all his serious crimes wasn’t enough. Now the dumb bitch out here struggling for real. She didn’t realize how much the little bit of help the nigga was giving her really made a difference, silly ho.
